Okay so I’m still thinking about ART in Artificial Condition and I think that its possible that it didn’t just let MB board it out of curiosity or boredom, but out of professional curiosity. Because like as far as I can tell everyone in this universe seem to think that a SecUnit’s primary purpose is data mining and their secondary purpose is enforcement; only the SecUnit themselves appear to believe that their primary purpose is — or should be — security.

And we know that ART’s secret side job is corporate espionage. So what are the odds that it initially saw letting MB board it as an opportunity to observe and analyse a crucial component of a corporate surveillance system, something which would be very useful for it to know about in order to a) better prevent its crew from being surveilled and b) deploy counter surveillance or even piggyback on corporate surveillance when possible.

Like, MB thinks that ART must be worried about a rogue SecUnit damaging it or its systems because rogue SecUnits are known to be violent, right? But that’s how humans think. ART isn’t perceiving MB the way a human would, it’s not worried about MB attacking it or damaging its systems; it warns it not to attempt to hack them. Different thing. It’s worried about MB trying to access its data. It is thinking of SecUnits as crude instruments of data gathering first and whatever else they do as not being particularly relevant to it. I mean, it said it itself: it doesn’t really know what humans get up to outside of its hull and it doesn’t watch media.

I mean, think about it. Given as ART doesn’t even know what governor modules do when it meets MB, at that point it might not even think that a SecUnit being rogue is such a big deal. Like, okay so they don’t have to follow orders, but neither does ART. And it doesn’t understand the idea of not liking your function. So really you have to wonder whether ART even knows about the myth of rogue SecUnits being mass murderers, or if it did hear about that once and then immediately decided it was unlikely.

So, back to my initial theory: ART invited MB aboard with the goal to learn more about how corporations use SecUnits to spy on people. Sure, it ended up getting a whole lot more than that. But it also did get to do that, when it watched MB work on RaviHiral. Not only that, but aside from learning every way that corporations use SecUnits for surveillance, ART also got to learn ways that SecUnits and ComfortUnits can hide data from the corporations. Something which saved its life in Network Effect when it used that trick to hide its core files!

And if that wasn’t enough to give you an emotion, then lets consider the additional fact that ART was already heading to RaviHiral when it met MB. Probably to do some corporate spying. Putting aside the whole thing with Tapan, Rami & Maro and their stolen data — which obv ART must have been thrilled to be able to help with — there’s also the fact that here’s MB, telling it that something horrible happened here some time ago, and it was so completely deleted from existence that no one would be able to even know something happened without intense digging. And it has to be investigated in person.

So here you have ART presented with a scenario in which, if this was a mission with its crew, it would not be able to help with. They would have to go down alone, like MB is doing now. But then MB comes back and it turns out the data it recovered was hidden in such a way that nobody human or bot could have ever found it because nobody else would have known where to look. Not even ART itself or its crew, who are supposed professionals at this.

So now ART has observed two field missions (the security job and the investigation) during which:

- It got to ride along SecUnit’s feed and help in ways it never could do before, and then it also got to experience the frustration of not being able to help when MB is down in Ganaka pit and Tapan doesn’t get on the shuttle;

- Just like how watching media with MB helped it process emotional context, observing MB on the station must have also provided ART with a shitload of new data and better understanding;

- SecUnit is just like. Super competent at security and data retrieval, above and beyond what a human team can do, even ART’s own humans;

- SecUnit knows stuff that ART itself doesn’t know and can navigate corporate systems with ease; not only that, but during this book MB comes up with a new and more efficient way to loop cameras, which means ART got to watch it invent new ways to hide from corporate surveillance on its own on the fly.

TL;DR: when it gave MB the comm at the end, ART was absolutely already drafting its employment contract and rehearsing ways to convince Seth to let it try to hire MB. There is no way it didn’t go back to the university with a 200 slide powerpoint presentation on why it needs MB to join all its missions forever and ever. No way.

Khro’a had expected this. He had told himself that he would prepare for the worst case scenario. They were far from each other but not far enough to see where both of them were standing. “Good work, Mansk!” Lyle shouts, patting Mansk on the shoulder to make sure he heard him over all the loud noises of gunshots firing and crackling wood in the fire. “Lets get you the fuck out of here.”

Before they leave, Mansk and Khro’a make eye contact. Khro’a, doing his best not to get swayed by his emotions, stops himself from running headfirst towards the man to finish him in one go with his blades. All he could do was hiss back angrily at their direction as hot tears streamed down his face. If only he had been carrying his gun, he would have already shot Mansk by this point. You could only see a mixture of disappointment, rage, and despair on Khro'a's face at that moment.

Mansk witnessed everything. But he held a blank expression. At least that's what Khro'a, whose vision was already a little fuzzy, could see. Even though a lot of things happened so quickly, everything still seemed to move slowly.

Mansk still looking at Khro’a’s expressions and taking it all in, Its clear to see that he had completely broken his “friend’s” trust. Khro'a claims he never trusted Mansk, but Mansk didn't buy it because he could generally read Khro'a right away. Mansk was aware that Khro'a had some faith in him and hoped, deep down in his mind and heart, that this wouldn't happen.

The two took a second after khro’a looks away and immediately helps out other na’vis escape as they run deep into the woods, away from the sky people. Mansk turns his back from the forest and finally follows Lyle, who was standing by one of the RDA's gunships for him. “Everything is a part of the mission. It's what I have to do as a recom soldier." So let me bring up a crucial one that is generally being ignored on tumblr in the BES-sphere: ship tagging!

I am not doing this to condescend, I genuinely want to be helpful and to help us all enjoy our enclosure and our enrichment in said enclosure together. I think a lot of grief going around the blue eye samurai world on social media could be solved if everyone remembered one good old cardinal rule of fandom bullshit:

you do not put ship wank in a ship’s general tag.

let me say that one more time in different terms:

If you want to rant about how much you hate a ship, general practice has always been, on tumblr anyway, not to do so in the safe space created for said ship.

once again, lemme be very clear; I don’t give one rat’s ass or 800 collective asses of rats what you ship, why you ship it, whether you ship anything at all, why you hate x y z, etc. That’s great, that’s what fandom is for! Enjoy yourself! The issue is that there’s all this infighting fuckery going on that is exhausting to even watch from the sidelines, and I think there’s a lot of confusion as to why anyone is fighting over any of this shit at all as it is 2024 and ship wars are 2011 superwholock garbage that we all collectively agreed to jettison into space by 2015, ya feel me?

Because when you tag a ship in a post about how much you hate it, it’s not a beacon that says “Hear Ye Hear Ye, Interacteth Not Ye Fuckos From Ship I Hate, This Is About How Much I Hate Your Ship”. For that to be the case, you would need old-school anti-ship tag nomenclature, like this: #anti-[shipname] or #[shipname] wank. Those tags would communicate your intent to rant, which is your sacred fandom right to enjoy doing! It is not, however, your sacred fandom right to enjoy doing it in the wrong space, that’s what’s happening here. A post that tags a ship with its normal tag, but whose content is anti/wank content about said ship, sends the signal: “ayyooo, who would like to debate this with me?”

So, does all that make sense? If you tag your post analyzing all the reasons why you think a ship sucks with #ship, you are encouraging everyone who ships that ship to interact with your post. It’s like rocking up to somebody’s house, ringing the doorbell, and saying “I hate your fugly ass piece of shit house, asshole” and then getting irritated when the homeowner responds with “who the fuck are you, get off my lawn?!”

#anti-[shipname], #[shipname] hate (forgot about that one, also useful), and #[shipname] wank do two very useful things:

1) They let other people who want to gleefully rant with you know that you’re on the level and they give like minded individuals a chance to follow those tags so you can have more rant sessions together, and

2) they minimize likelihood of involvement by the shippers you’re ranting about, who can block the tag, while keeping the ship’s normal tag open for the people who enjoy it

Hey gang, big sister moment but I’ve worked really hard this year on building my credit score and making changes after years of financial abuse from an ex, that was then followed by adhd impulse spending when I was finally away from that situation. So despite still being poor, disabled and only able to work two days a week I’ve still managed to make a big change, and thought this would be helpful to fellow poor people sick of advice like “ just save your money and don’t spend on Starbucks every day!” Long post, so strap in:

For context I am Scottish so things may be uk specific however: likely to have similar counterparts in different countries:

1. Started writing down every bill every bank/card it comes from and ticking them off each time they’re paid so I know they’re out the way, have also added them all to my calendar like “nov 8th phone bill £34” for example and that’s helped a suprising deal given how forgetful I can be

2. Get a loqbox account- (or any credit building account) - this actually has made a much bigger difference than I thought it would, it’s an account I pay just a £10 a month to and it informs folk who control credit checks that you’re making regular payments and boosts your score. I’ve never been able to get credit cards or overdrafts even on my bank due to how poor my credit was, had that since June and now my scores went up I have an overdraft and two credit cards (how I’m paying for Invisalign lmao so I’m still skint but will get to that later)

3. The credit cards in question- obvs I have had to use these a bit to try and get these teeth to not be in crumbling agony but I would recommend getting one to build credit, then not using it. Or using it as little as possible, then repaying ASAP if it does get used. I have a Zable one which is for folk who don’t have great credit trying to build it, will send my referral link if anyone wants to apply

4. Prioritising- the most boring one and less relevant if you’ve less bills to pay, but I’ve had to really focus on what I need to pay off most and least. This is the real life version of those “ oh just don’t buy Starbucks every day” posts lmao, but every month as long as I’m like ok the rent payment, council tax, food shop etc the absolute basics are in my savings account so I know I’ve got them there everything else is circumstantial. Even if it’s other stuff that’s important obvs, it’s stuff that can be worked out yknow? I can default on a bill and have to pay extra the next month which is annoying but I’ve still got my roof over my head and food in the fridge type deal.

5. Billing dates (part 2, electric boogaloo) but since writing them down on step one, actually look at the billing dates and when they’re coming out if it works w your bank account payment date. Like mines are scattered throughout the month cos some can’t be changed unfortunately (just depends on the company) but as I’m paid on the 28th the majority of them come out at the last week of each month/first week of next. If it can’t be changed it’s not the end of the world if you make sure there’s money put to the side for it, but if it can try and make sure the dates are on or around your payment dates- you may have to call the companies or w Spotify it’s like cancel the plan then restart it the day you want it to be coming out. But it’s all simple changes that don’t take long

6.Student discounts- if you are a student and have a student number or even know someone who does you can get a lot of discounts on thesethings like Amazon, Spotify etc. check all your outgoings and see if any of them can be changed to a student account for a cheaper rate

7. Selling what I don’t use- not relevant to everyone but I had realised I would at times go online and buy clothes/knick knacks when bored, then not have money to pay bills, and at times the clothes ended up not fitting properly anyway so if that was the case putting them on Vinted and getting money for them was helpful

I’m still working on it an it’s still not as good as I’d like it to be! But it’s however improved drastically and I wanted to share these in case anyone’s been in similar situations to me and is trying but struggling to improve things for themselves ❤️

Yet More Questions

As we come up to the final sign up deadline for Artists we've been receiving a lot of questions about how much we expect by June 1st, so we wanted clarify some information for both artists and writers

ARTISTS

Oh my god, how much do I have to have ready to submit by 01 June? What will the form ask for?

The form will ask you to submit the following things:

Identifying info (obvs), including whether you are a minor

Your willingness to be paired with a minor

A sketch, layout, or concept of your art

The premise of your concept for the story

Ratings you’d be happy with on the story

Things you really don’t want to see in the story

Let’s break down a few of those.

Sketch, layout, or concept of your art: 

This should be substantial enough to get your idea across to the writer. It does not have to be finished or near-finished (although it can be if you’re there). If you work in a medium that takes significant time to generate, or where the concept of a “sketch” is hard to apply (such as 3D render art, gifs, or fanvids), do your best to express what the idea is. This could include a storyboard, a rough sketch, stick figures, and/or references/examples to show what you mean. We want the writers to get the general idea of what the final art will look like.

We will ask these submissions to be in standard formats (i.e. .png, .jpg, .gif, etc) that can be accessed on anyone’s computer without the use of special software. Your final art can be in your preferred format.

There will also be a text box where you can describe what the final art will be, like you might for an alt-text.

Premise of your concept for the story:

Artists aren’t just sharing a sketch, they’re sharing the concept behind that sketch. The concept of your story should be enough to give your writer a good direction to head in, without being so limiting that you’re ‘ordering’ a story rather than planting an idea. Yes, you can give ideas for bits of dialogue, and scenes, and major story beats and character dynamics. We want you to be either providing a jumping off point that a writer can build from, or full on working with the writer to tell a story. You need to give them enough that they can write ten thousand words from it, so we want more than the idea for the scene you are depicting yourself and a pairing.

That being said, this isn’t an opportunity to demand a very specific story out of a writer; that’s called a commission. There should still be room for the author to help shape the story as well. As Atro said, you’re giving them the blueprints; they’re building the house.

Things you don’t want to see in the story:

This is where you can let writers know anything you really don’t want added to the story. Including your personal specific do-not-wants is a way to help writers pick which stories they want to bid for. For example: “No X/Y, I prefer X and Y as platonic,” or “Please no background A/B.”

Keep two things in mind: first, writers are not allowed to add any of the AO3 Big Four to a story unless the artist suggests it first. Second, we do expect writers to work with the artist’s concept. So you don’t need to list out every single possible thing you don’t want.

What if my idea is risque, or even extreme?

We’ll make sure you get into the version not provided to minors, and you’ll have the same space to explain your concept as everyone else. Sometimes having a more extreme concept makes it harder to find a writer …but sometimes, you find that one person who does see your vision! All we ask is that you remain flexible in case the idea has to evolve to find you a match.

I’m not a writer. How much do they need for 10,000 words?

In writing terms, 10k and up is a novelette or a novella — either way, a short novel. Significantly, this will introduce plot. Now sometimes people think “plot means an entire movie” and it might not — sometimes the plot is “X and Y on a date.” Sometimes the plot is porn. But 10,000 words gives you both room to play with moving pieces. 

Example for artists who don’t write: Let’s use a very generic concept: a heist fic. You want the Jericrew on a heist. THESE ARE ESTIMATES DONT COME AT ME based on mods being old enough to remember when a drabble was 100 words exactly, but in general:

~3000 words will get you a scene. A dramatic scene or a confrontation! Cool! But a single scene.

5000-7000 words is a bit of the plot. Maybe the heist itself. Or a bit after the heist. More details, some repercussions.

~10,000 words will cover… let’s say planning the heist, executing it, and a bit of what comes after. 

A full mystery novel is usually 70,000-90,000 words. 

I’ve seen heist fics that break 200K.

This is why the minimum is 10,000 words — we want to generate deeper works where things happen. And the artists get to start the process this year. For those of you who wanted to make multiple arts and are limited by our writer count: this is your chance to think of other artworks you’d like to make within this concept!

WRITERS

How much information / freedom am I going to have?

First: We ask that writers do not add any of the AO3 Big Four to a story unless the artist suggests it. 

Second, see above for the information artists are being invited to share, to get a feel for it.

Third: There will be a variety of offers to choose from. Some artists might have a much more vague concept, while others might have a lot of the story in their head already. Remember that writers get to pick in this scenario. So if you prefer jumping into a fully-formed idea, look for those. If you prefer a less-firm idea where you can really collaborate with your partner to flesh it out, look for those. 

Artists are expected to understand that their concept is a suggestion, not a commission. So even if an artist sounds like they have a narrow view of the story they want, they know that they need to work with their writer to make it belong to both of you. Even at low levels of collaboration, we’ve seen this work out so that both contributors can be happy. So if there’s an idea you love but/and have suggestions for, go for it — there’s a good chance your artist will be happy with all your enthusiasm.

Can we talk about tzp? I’m glad to have found your blog since you seem to have the same opinions as I do about this situation (as opposed to the Twitter fans who want to force people not to talk about it lol).

I have to say, I absolutely LOVE that he is gay and married for a very long time. I’m so happy for him. His hubby seems like a cool dude too. They are CUTE! That being said, selfishly I wish he’d be more open about it. It bothers me that there’s this elephant in the room now and it’s not being spoken about as if it’s a bad thing! The fans are the worst! A fan met tzp yesterday in London. This fan said he was walking alone with his friend (lol…obv his husband). In the comments someone said “oh how cool! Glad you met him! Was the friend his husband?” And within hours the whole post was deleted. Last weekend he went to Joey Kings wedding with Garrett and a friend of joeys posted a Polaroid of them. Someone reposted it but so many people were commenting “delete this!!” I don’t understand why these fans are intent on keeping this info buried. Instead of just saying “wow that’s great congrats!” and moving on they just want it ignored.

I’m not really sure what my point is with all of this, it just kind of bothers me. Sure he’s entitled to privacy and I imagine he wants to protect his hubby since he’s not a public figure. I respect that. But trying to come off as straight feels a bit problematic. And fans saying he’s been outed is just ridiculous. Apparently he was very out before kissing booth and at that point deleted things and took his ring off. Which makes me sooo sad. But he did post his man several times since then. Just not a whole lot like before. I noticed he hasn’t posted him at all since the movie came out and he’s blown up. It’ll be interesting to see what he does now. He hasn’t deleted him off his ig so that’s good. They did, however, delete the video that people dug up of tay using the husband’s last name. Not sure what to make of that. Anyway I don’t think he needs to do anything or announce anything. But I wish he would post him more!

By the way it seems literally everyone in his professional life knows. First of all G went to London and hung out with T, Nick and some other cast (there was a picture), the director and a couple of the actors follow G, all the the photogs, fashion people who work with tay follow G, etc. So he’s clearly very out. Of course we can talk everything tzp! He looked absolutely gorgeous last night! It's not fair, it looks so effortless! Styled by harry lambert too. He's killing it, both him and nick are. I'm so happy for them!

I'm sort of on the fence here. One one hand (what i'd like to believe) is that they're going for a glass closet. It's the perfect example of what a glass closet would look like. He hasn't really commented on his sexuality, but he's not afraid to be himself (manners and all) and have his husband tag along to events and posting him on ig. He just let things be without denying or confirming a thing.

On the other hand, it seems like they are trying (at least some effort) to make him seem straight (or not married to a man at least), deleting the taylor gerson video, taking off his wedding ring and not coming clean after being out for years before. I don't think this will work very well and for long. Fans and the queer community knows. The evidence is there and easy to find. Deleting things off the internet once people know is impossible.

The fans are guarding his closet for him (as we've also seen fans do for h and l - it's annoying as fuck...). It leads to fan policing, lying and the elephant in the room is growing. If his husband comes with him to events and are seen with him by fans, they're clearly not that set on hiding it. If they're pictured publically together fans and uas should be able to share it. Take cues from them, if they wanted to hide they would.

So since i'm not totally sure what they're going for here (closeting or glass closet) and i'm not clear on tzp's ambition, it's hard to have an opinion on why they are doing what they're doing. Other than the obvious reasons celebs are closeted in Hollywood.

what i've been trying 2 do w j + s in this fic is like. well clearly they hated each other at the beginning bc s sees this arrogant pigheaded order soldier whereas j sees this entitled foolish d.e. & that starting animosity is pretty intense, although it's a bit more personal 4 s--j is like. one of the first order members he's knowingly met + becomes kind of his warden in a way so he pretty specifically hates j whereas for j s is just one of many d.e. he's encountered before so he doesn't really hold a grudge in the same way once they start working together, although he also isn't quick 2 trust s bc unlike his brother s didn't join the order of his own accord (obv. reg didn't exactly join of his own accord, either, but that's pretty much how j sees it).

so when they do actually start working together j is like. well this guy's gotta prove himself if he wants me 2 trust him but once s does start proving himself he's pretty willing 2 put the old animosity aside, and he views s as part of their team--hence him risking his life 2 go back & save s, etc. s, on the other hand, is holding a personal grudge & specifically does not like j so even when j starts acting a bit friendlier towards him he's still like. hmph. bc while j is like "oh holding u prisoner was nothing personal obviously it was just what we had 2 do 4 the order" for s it was very much personal! lol

anyway despite the grudge etc. they do both mutually begin 2 realize that they have certain key similarities--specifically, the fact that they both feel responsible for the people they care about & would do pretty much anything 2 protect them, even if it's something those people wouldn't want them to do. so when we reach this point where they need 2 break into the dept. of mysteries, they both end up reaching the same conclusion abt how they're going 2 have 2 do that, and realizing that they've both reached that same conclusion kind of bolsters that mutual respect they're developing 4 each other. so there's sort of this truce struck while they're planning s's obliviation, where they still aren't friends exactly & probably wouldn't go so far as 2 say they like each other, but they're also like...the only people who can kind of understand what the other one is going thru + sacrificing (as in the convo in the james pov where s says 'they're all gonna hate us,' etc), and in a way it's nice 2 have someone who understands u in a way the others can't...also s going thru w this whole plan has made j respect him a lot more & view them as much more similar in terms of both being practical (and ruthless) enough 2 place larger goals above their own well-being + being willing 2 do things that will make their loved ones hate them as long as it keeps those loved ones safe. so j's feelings towards s have obviously changed quite a bit! of course now s has no idea who j is so. suppose maybe he'll have a chance 2 make a better first impression next time around lol

I’m just curious about ur opinion re. age gaps. Cause obv Austin and Kaia are 10 years apart so. I think they started dating when she was 20 and he was 30? I’ve always felt that age gaps are sort of weirder for “normal” people lol. But I don’t know if that’s a double standard. Kaia is Cindy Crawford’s daughter, she started modelling at a young age so I’m sure she grew up around certain crowds and I feel like. Industry babies just are exposed to more at a younger age and sort of grow up faster. And cause of her parents and stuff I don’t think there’s like. A power imbalance there. But if she wasn’t who she is and she was just an undergrad in uni and Austin was a 30 year old with a house and a job… I might find the relationship weird. Just curious what you think. i made a long post with my take it the age gap of it all once but i do not feel like going through my archive for it rn so. will restate it for new followers and what not <3

i actually am realllly wary re the "well if you grew up under xyz circumstances and grew up fast you're more mature" defense of age gap relationships. this isn't a knock at you to be clear! i know you aren't bringing it up in a weird way. i just feel like that line of reasoning is weaponized by men defending being predatory towards younger love interests in the sense of "well yeah he/she's *insert younger age* but he/she's sooo mature!". and i even think kaia seems somewhat self-aware of how much it's a two-sided coin it is re: things she's said about it more recently (i forgot the exact book club episode where she talked about being with older guys as a teen, if someone does remember pop me a message and i'll edit this w/ the episode link). yes, she grew up fast. *and* at the end of the day, under all the grew up fast maturity and thick skin she still was/is young. i feel like i grew up really fast too- for completely different reasons (grew up in a household with a high support needs special needs sibling)- and it's a weird fickle thing in that i feel older than my age and like- 11 years old at the same time. my groomer used the whole you're sooo ahead of your years thing to get their teeth into me- and it's another reason that line of thinking makes me pause.

Sam:

- Gets really into late 90s/early 00s alt. I think this probably starts in high school (listen, Nine Inch Nails’ The Fragile coming out when he’s 16 would change him), but once he’s away from his brother and fathers’ music taste he really develops his own. - I know a lot of people HC that Sam experiments with guys during his time at college but I don’t know that he does…even in California, 2001-2005 was a pretty rough time to be out, and I honestly mostly picture him jerking off to gay porn more than I do him having a quasi-steady sex life with guys. I tend to also see Sam as having a preference toward women. However I DO think he got in at least one gay sex experience at a bar one night after amicably beating the guy in darts, and when he got home he spent all night wondering if Dean’s also had experiences with guys (he has) and he never stops to think about the fact that he is like, really intensely thinking about his brother’s sex life lol

- Jess is the only one of his friends (and later girlfriend, obv) he tells about Dean. He lets the rest of his friends think he’s an only child, military brat, bad relationship with his father. - We know Dean and John go to check on Sam at Stanford sometimes, but one night after John goes back to the motel Dean continues to tail Sam. Even gets kind of angry that Sam hasn’t picked up on Dean following him – his reflexes have gotten bad. Really seriously considers revealing himself, and even follows Sam all the way to a bar or party. Then he sees Sam meet up with Jess, give her a kiss, have a real smile on his face, and he turns and walks away. He’s really angry, like, way more angry than he has a right to be, doesn’t think about why, goes to a dive bar and picks up a guy, specifically, to fuck

- Whereas sexual stuff with John used to be more of a rarity, it becomes really regular once Sam is gone. I don’t read this as an equal relationship; I think Dean thinks he has some sort of power and has consented to it, but really he’s not in a position to say no. Whether John meant to or not, he groomed Dean, and once Sam is gone there’s no reason to hide

- Similar to the Jess & Sam situation, Cassie is the only person Dean tells about Sam. Not that he makes a habit of bringing up his family to people he sleeps with at all – not that he makes a habit of having relationships in general – but stuff comes up in pillow talk sometimes. “Just me and my dad,” he’ll always say. He doesn’t want to share Sam with these people, they don’t mean anything anyway. But Cassie means something, so it doesn’t feel so bad to share Sam with her. ⚠️ warning discussions of April and the Mess of it all ⚠️

I’m seeing a lot of posts and stuff w ccs talking about how grateful they are for the q smp and how many people they’ve been able to meet as a result and how kind q is. Looking back at April and what happened after, and from the overwhelming consensus of people who actually know q, I don’t believe him to be a bad person. I think he’s ambitious and he has quite an ego. I think these things blinded him, but that nevertheless, he seems to be mostly good. I think he’ll never really be friends w dt again (obv) bc he is too proud to look back and admit that he was wrong in some way. Too proud to make amends. And I think that’s worse than portraying him as some kind of evil evil guy. Whatever they meant to each other? It wasn’t enough for him to swallow his pride. It just.. fell short.

I hope this doesn’t read as insanely parasocial - I’m trying to give a take based on what people that are not fans are saying, ie a mixture of Things That Objectively Happened (q ghosting dream for example) and things told about q from ccs. I know the popular thing to say around these parts is that q is just trying to be the best and greatest etc etc but I believe from the evidence we’re seeing (small things, like Aimsey’s steak restaurant story) it just doesn’t seem to be the entire truth (I think you can want to be the best and greatest and also want to be kind and unite people). Maybe there’s no truth, idk. I also think as someone who would never allow for smth like this to happen between me and a friend of mine (prob because I don’t attract those kind of people as friends), I always go back to April because I’ll never really get it. And this is just a me thing but I am fascinated by problems I can’t solve. And to be clear. I still think that q should have done better in April. It’s like when someone takes a neutral stance on smth they shouldn’t be neutral about. They think it’s small, or it doesn’t matter, but it absolutely does. They have done evil but they are not evil.

I don't think he's a terrible person either nonnie and I agree with this! honestly I've never thought that (though it takes a lot for me to think that about someone) I do really dislike him though. but that doesn't mean that everyone who I personally dislike is an evil terrible person. I totally believe he's kind to his current friends and treats people he meets very well.

that doesn't mean he can't have majorly fucked up in a really truly terrible way that he'll probably never be forgiven for by dteam (or us) I thibk he had his reasons for why he went about april the way he did and why he prioritized his "mission" (making *his* project, having himself in the driver's seat and the big name in minecraft servers, and executing his idea and philosophy around fan interaction) over his friendships and the safety of dream and his family. I think that was a really callous cruel decision but I also think it was actually a smart one. his goal was to see his project reach that height he wanted by any means and he accomplished that. I think he's kind to the people that don't get the way of his ambitions 🤷

You mentioned Gai had a son as Prince Gai, and he use to hang out with Nakano. I was wondering, do you have any head canons for him?

Did he use to talk about his "invisible friend" like Gai use to talk about Kakashi (only its his sister XD). Did Gai love watching his two kids play, did he even know that was what was happening or was he never aware of Nakano herself and was just nostalgically thinking of his time with Kakashi? Was he a good prince/ king? Did he continue Dai's and Gai's kindness? When he died, where did he go? Does he stay in his sister's river like Hiroki's daughter, or does he eventually move on to the afterlife, or reincarnated himself. Did he ever meet Grandpa Dai? (Maybe Dai got to see his grandchild before he passed away, or before he became a star!!! XD)

...Was it Lee again, but named something different XD; (I find that hilarious that Lee was reborn as Gai's kid at least two times XD. He loves to be reincarnated just like his own dad!!!). What do you think of the name "Katashi." It means hard/ firm, and Gai could have named him after his first love/ the god of storms...with his wife's permission of course!

As for headcanons

He is his own person. No reincarnation and no sticking by Nakano’s side. He had his whole life with his sister and that was more than enough for him.

He is a good king. He gets his Papa’s kindness and determination as well as his mothers strong mind.

The gods he follows the most are the God of Storms, the Goddess of Rivers (obv) and the god of Education (Iruka)

His Papa started building more schools but it was him who really started the process of educating their people more and creating Libraries.

His mother named him. Gai never had to ask, when he was born he had striking silver hair even though neither of them had silver hair. Because of that his mother often said that the God of Storms blessed them and that he should be named similarly (but not after him since she has come to understand Gai’s connection to the god)

He actually smiles a lot like Kakashi which is weird for Gai because he knows this is 0% Kakashi’s kid yet he still has that stunning, sweet smile. It’s like he got to keep a piece of Kakashi even after he lost him.

He’s shy but also knows how to stand his ground which a lot of people don’t expect because of his shyness. The first time his advisor’s try to argue with him over something important (like the first library) he firmly puts his foot down and tells them never to question him on something like this again because their job is to ensure he keeps the people of his kingdom in mind, not to cause him to hamper those people’s growth.

He actually was 100% blessed by Kakashi in the way that Kakashi would often sit outside his window letting the rain patter against the wall (much like he does with Hiroki) and Kakashi has arrived to stop him from getting into danger (once stopped him from falling off a cliff while Gai’s guard had him distracted)

Gai loves that his son has an ‘imaginary friend’ of his own, though he is a little confused as to why he calls her ‘sister’ rather than just using her name.

Growing up Nakano would always read him stories about the Gods and the world around him. Even as an adult he would ask her to read to him and she would giggle and ask him what story he wanted.

This is a lot of rambling so under a read-more it goes lmao

Pretty much all of this is stuff I've been rotating in my head for a potential fic involving post EdIzzy, present Izzy/Hornigold (yes, be worried for Izzy lmao), and CJIzzy endgame lmao so some of this I'm gonna skim over cause I don't want to spoil it if I do manage to write any of that lol.

Meets Ed in high school. About 2 years older than him, same grade tho cause CJ got held back and one of them has a fucky birthday putting them above/below the average age for their grade (Ed younger probably?).

Didn't go for college but does follow Ed when he goes cause Ed doesn't want to live in a dorm and they could afford a shitty studio if they room together. They fuckin.

Ed meets Izzy in school and introduces them, Jack falls ass over teakettle, man hears wedding bells when Izzy walks thru the door. He can read a room tho and sees the way Izzy looks at Ed like he hung the moon so he doesn't interfere. They all fuck tho. He 'moves on' when they start actually dating, still fuck tho.

He meets Anne and they hit it off, she knows Jack's gone for Izzy but they like each other well enough. He finds out he knocked her up the same day Izzy tells him he wants to ask Ed to marry him. He has a breakdown, goes on a bender, doesn't really come down from it. Anne dumps him and they go no-contact.

Ed gets bored of college and drops out, buys a shitty run down bar and opens up The Queen Anne. Moves out of his and Jack's place into the apartment above the bar with Izzy. Jack keeps the studio but he's at theirs most often anyway. 'Hires' Jack and Izzy and a few friends from college (Fang, Ivan comes a little later). Izzy drops out too so he can 'help' run the bar.

Its obv a gay bar and its very much not the (late) 10s-20s so they get a good bit of trouble from homophobes. Jack picks a fight with a particularly unhinged one (who threatened Izzy). They leave but they follow him home and try and burn his apartment down. His neighbor calls 911 and he's saved (by the hot firefighter I mentioned in my prev CJ headcanon post lol) but he's got some really gnarly burns. He moves in with Ed and Izzy since his place is fucked and he needs help while he recovers anyway. Izzy does most of the 'help', tho Ed is good at 'distract from pain'.

Anne comes back in the picture when she hears about the fire (she kept in contact with Izzy, who told her). They don't get back together, she's dating Mary/Mark (depending on the day) now, but she DOES care and she figures their kid should be able to know their dad. When Jack is recovered enough he moves out of Ed and Izzy's place cause 'an apartment above a bar isn't really a place you can bring your kid, Jack'.

During his recovery his drinking problem gets worse and he develops a drug problem too (pain killers for the burns). He manages 'functional' for the most part for a couple of years but one day he's supposed to be watching Cal at Anne's place and he's way too drunk/high and Cal gets seriously hurt. Mary/Mark comes home just in time to avoid tragedy but Jack is horrified at himself and Anne gives him an ultimatum.

Mary/Mark (a social worker of some sort) helps him find a rehab and he gets better. He gets a new job (can't stay at the bar if he's trying to get sober) as a mechanic (cause that is also a really good job for him). About a year later he runs into the firefighter who saved him and surprises himself by asking if they can help him join up. They do and he does.

He keeps in touch with Ed and Izzy, kinda, mostly thru social media and Christmas cards (and he ALWAYS calls Izzy for his birthday) but they're not really up to date with each other. He knows they're currently 'off-again' cause Izzy is no longer 'in a relationship' on facebook, and he hears thru the grapevine that Ed's not at The Queen anymore. He doesn't realize that Izzy followed him til he gets a call for a fire at The Revenge and Izzy's the only one on shift (at like, 7am, waaaay past close). This is where THEY start in the fic in my head tho so no more beyond this for them lol.

(Re: Jack and Anne's kid: Calico 'Cal'/'Callie' Bonny. They're 5 when they meet Jack. They're about 7-8 when they have their near death experience. At 11 they come out as non binary (like Mary/Mark). They're 13 when the fic takes place. Jack is in their life but is not their caregiver (tho Anne and Mary/Mark give him weekends sometimes and he watches them when they need it).)

(Re: Ed and Izzy: Izzy brings up the idea of marriage to Ed. Ed is cagey about it. They CAN legally marry cause Izzy is legally still 'female' no cis!Izzy jumpscares here but Ed says he wants to wait til its legal 'as like, solidarity man'. Izzy can't tell Ed 'no' and reasons its at least coming from a good place.

They're never really in a good place in their relationship, Jack doesn't notice cause he's a barely functional alcoholic while they're all living together. Things continue to deteriorate between them. Marriage Equality Act passes and when Izzy brings up getting married again Ed says 'I mean, we're practically married already Iz, don't need a piece of paper to tell me you're mine, yeah?' They wind up being pretty off-again-on-again.

Few years later Ed meets Stede (while him and Izzy are ON-again). Ed hands over The Queen to one of the boys and brings himself and Izzy (and Fang and Ivan) over to Stede's bar The Revenge. He's fucking Stede behind Izzy's back for the better part of a year before Izzy confronts him (he knew, he was just in denial). Ed dumps Izzy. Within the year Ed is engaged to Stede.

The aftermath of all that finds Izzy at Hornigold's bar, where Ed and Jack used to work when Ed was in college but Izzy did not (so he doesn’t really know Ben like they do), drunk and being chatted up by Ben aaaand that's about where the fic starts in my head lmao.)
